New Product: Name ID [Jun. 22nd, 2011|12:09 pm]
Sky Dancer
Today marks the official availability of Cequint's latest product: Name ID now available on T-Mobile!

We started small, with CityID, an on-phone lookup of City and State, presented directly on the incoming call screen. That shipped for the first time in early 2007 on Alltel BREW phones from LG and Samsung. We've since been shipping on every phone Verizon Wireless ships (except iPhone and Windows Phone 7), on all US Cellular phones, and others. City ID's presense on AT&T is increasing.

We started working on various methods for delivering Name Caller ID in 2008 and have incubated the product ever since. Today it is available on two Android phones on T-Mobile with more in the pipeline behind them. The names displayed by Name ID are a combination of the 15-character CNAM (what is displayed on Land Lines) and, when available, Extended Name information which allows for longer names, separate first & last names, business listings, etc.

HBO decision time for A Game Of Thrones [Feb. 27th, 2010|12:27 pm]
Sky Dancer
The HBO Pilot of A Game Of Thrones is now at the decision point for greenlighting the Series. This should be an awesome series to see on HBO. Having an entire season per book is about the only way to do justice to this fantasy series on the Screen.

If you want to see this arrive on HBO, please go to this Facebook thread and comment to let HBO know that this project has fan support!

Also, please copy this onto your FB, LJ, Twitters... The Tiny URL for that thread is: http://tinyurl.com/yayo59r

How to ruin a concert [Feb. 26th, 2010|10:09 pm]
Sky Dancer

I went to the Moore Theatre in Seattle to see Jonathan Coulton tonight. Every time I've seen JoCo, Paul and Storm have been the opening band. This is usually fine.

Not tonight. Our seats were in the under-balcony area and Paul and Storm incite the crowd to be very loud in their audience participation. This was amplified to a painful degree in the echo chamber under the balcony.  By the end of their set I was drained from dealing with the excess noise and had to leave before JoCo ever came on stage.

Cequint is Go at Throttle Up [Nov. 6th, 2009|12:13 pm]
Sky Dancer
We just passed a major milestone for our next level of functionality with one of the largest carriers in the industry. I really can't say more than that, but this is a major, major milestone and it greenlights a set of features that will propel Cequint through the next several years.

Let us just hope that we survive the transision in the way that all but one Shuttle, Challenger, has done.

It's Dead Jim [Sep. 2nd, 2009|09:58 pm]
Sky Dancer
The TV has died. This was the first big-screen TV I've had. It was an early projection HD-Ready TV.  It's been a good TV, though has been getting a little blurry with age.

Now it just blinks its power light.  The suggested fixes online--to do a cold reboot essentially--haven't succeeded.

Looked around inside for obviously blown components, but nothing stands out.

It was working fine...but then it just refused to turn on...

No Xbox for me until it's resolved :(

Space Elevator Conference [Aug. 11th, 2009|05:48 pm]
Sky Dancer
There is a conference on Space Elevators happening later this week at Microsoft's Conference Center. If I had the time and money, it would be fun to go to the whole thing.

However, there is a free presentation tomorrow evening 7:00pm to 8:30pm and a more detailed presentation on Saturday that costs $40 for up to 4 people.

I'm definitely wanting to go to tomorrow's presentation and I'm thinking about going to one of the Saturday sessions (they have morning and afternoon sessions). Anyone else want to go?

Details here

My boss... [Jul. 1st, 2009|03:59 pm]
Sky Dancer
My boss is a hard-core bicyclist.  Rides to work every day, rain or shine. Only when snow makes it impossible does he not ride in.

I went out and got a lock for my bike today, and pointed it out to him. He started razzing me about, "Who would want to steal it? It's not fast enough to be a motorcycle, it's not a cool racing bike..."

So then he pulls it away from the wall to try sitting on it.  It has a rather unconventional seat, and with the pedals forward it is a very different feel.  He was commenting, "This is weird".  The he starts pedalling it down the hall, wobbling since the long wheelbase and sort of chopper-like front fork takes a little getting used-to.

I adjusted the seat down for him a bit, and then also plugged in the battery. Pointed out the thumb throttle.

He gave it a little bit juice and accelerated rapidly (only a few seconds) and was like "wheeeee".  Then turned around and zipped back down the hall and continued around the perimeter of the office. I think he was quite surprised at how quickly it accelerated.

So he had fun with the geek toy :)

More biking [Jun. 26th, 2009|06:28 pm]
Sky Dancer
Saturday I was able to (cheaply) upgrade my front sprockets from 42/32/22 to 52/42/32 teeth. This makes me very happy. It means that I can actually pedal at a reasonable speed along with the motor. Thus I can get more exercise since I'll have resistance to my pedalling.

In fact, I was able to pedal, feeling some resistance, even at 26+ mph down a hill on the way to work today.

I biked on Sunday down to a bike shop in Redmond and then up to gaming and home from there after.  On the way to gaming I went up the steepest hill I've yet tried: up 98th from 202.  On the steepest part I was in my lowest gear (of the new gearing) and was only going 5MPH, but I was going, and I made it.  14.5 miles total.

Today was the only day this week I got up early enough to ride to work, so once again only once this week... need to get back to the 2-3 target next week.

Communication??? [Jun. 18th, 2009|09:04 am]
Sky Dancer
From the "What Were They Thinking" file comes the results of a survey conducted by marketing consultants iGR.
  • Nine percent of U.S. consumers have sent a text intended to end a relationship with a partner or cancel a date.
  • Seven percent of the consumers have received such a text message in the past month.
  • more male consumers than females reported both sending and receiving ‘goodbye’ messages.
  • 1 percent of U.S. consumers have proposed marriage to someone via a text message
  • One percent of women have sent a text to tell their partner that they are pregnant (all who reported receiving such messages were male).
  • three U.S. consumers – two men and one woman – have asked their spouse for a divorce via SMS, and two men have received a text message asking for a divorce, in the past month.
As the article comments, "give this trend a few years and we are sure to find people who never actually talk to each other but conduct their entire lives through SMS, Facebook, Twitter, etc."
